About Christy
"Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light." ~ Brené Brown
Christy is a Marriage and Family Therapist intern (MFTi) studying currently at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Christy is passionate about understanding others' life stories and journeys. She believes that all people can find their way to a healthy, happy life filled with fulfilling relationships with others. Her approach is grounded in creating a safe place for clients to discover their true selves and in turn living more authentic lives.
Christy uses research-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to address issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relational issues, addiction, and other mental health challenges. CBT explores how our thoughts and emotions influence our current behavior patterns. ART uses the power of eye movements to create new neural pathways in the brain that help clients overcome trauma responses and deal with everyday triggers or anxieties.
For couples, Christy is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-based approach that helps couples deal with attachment issues affecting the relationship. EFT promotes that individuals can experience healing in safe, loving relationships. Through EFT, relationships can be strengthened to overcome challenges and each client can gain a better understanding of their partner's experience. Through this understanding, partners can learn how to better show up for each other, which in turn creates a better sense of safety and increases the intimacy in the relationship.
Christy loves playing sports, being outside and just hanging out with her husband and nine kids. She received her Bachelor's degree from Utah Valley University in Psychology and has been studying for her Masters in Dallas Texas where she lived for 20 years. She is happy to be back in Utah, but left a part of her heart in Texas.
