Couples Therapy

Couples and marriage therapy in Utah to help you break unhealthy patterns, rebuild trust, strengthen emotional connection, and create a more secure relationship.

Relationships can be deeply rewarding, but even strong couples can find themselves feeling disconnected, stuck in recurring conflicts, or unsure how to find their way back to each other. Many couples come to therapy not because they don't love each other, but because they feel caught in patterns of hurt, misunderstanding, and distance that are difficult to change on their own.

Couples therapy provides a space to better understand what is happening beneath the surface of your conflicts and learn new ways of responding to one another. Whether you're healing from past hurts, rebuilding trust, navigating a difficult season, or wanting to deepen an already healthy relationship, therapy can help you create lasting change.

Our Approach to Couples Therapy

At Course Counseling, our couples therapy is primarily grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based approach focused on helping couples understand their relationship patterns, strengthen their emotional bond, and develop a more secure attachment with one another.

Rather than focusing only on the arguments happening on the surface, EFT helps couples identify the deeper emotions and needs underneath their conflicts. Couples learn to recognize negative cycles, turn toward each other with greater understanding, and create new patterns of connection.

Our therapists also incorporate other evidence-based approaches, including the Gottman Method and Internal Family Systems (IFS), when helpful based on each couple's unique needs.

We support couples in:

  • Identifying and changing patterns of conflict and disconnection

  • Improving communication and responding to each other with greater empathy

  • Rebuilding trust after betrayal, infidelity, or relationship injuries

  • Healing attachment wounds and past relationship hurts

  • Deepening emotional and physical intimacy

  • Navigating life transitions and parenting challenges

  • Preparing for marriage and building a strong foundation

  • Strengthening an already healthy relationship

No matter where your relationship is today, change is possible. Our goal is to help couples feel more understood, connected, and secure in their relationship.

What to Expect:

Starting couples therapy can feel vulnerable, especially when conflict or distance has become part of your relationship. Your first session is an opportunity for both partners to share their experiences, discuss what brought you to therapy, and identify what you hope will be different.

Your therapist will spend time understanding your relationship history, the challenges you're facing, and the patterns that have developed between you. From there, you'll begin working together to create healthier ways of communicating, responding, and reconnecting.

Most couples meet for 50-minute sessions weekly or every other week, either in person or through telehealth. For couples who want a more concentrated experience, we also offer Couples Intensives, ranging from 100-minute sessions to half-day intensives. These extended sessions provide additional time to focus on deeper relationship work.

Both partners are actively involved in the process, working with your therapist toward the goals you've identified as a couple. As therapy progresses, your therapist will regularly check in to ensure the approach continues to meet your needs.
